Website Of the Week Award ©2011 by Richard Nolle |
OCT 17, 2011 - Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program promises to be a very busy website in the coming months. Here's a timely tip: get to know it now, before it's overwhelmed with traffic. There are still a couple SuperMoons to go this year, one on October 26 and one on November 25 (the latter a solar eclipse), and you can pretty well plan on notable volcanic activity on or about those dates. The Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program is where you can check in for an overview of current major volcanic acivity (see their weekly report, for example); or get a chronology of major volcanic eruptions over the last 10,000+ years, a guide to volcano types, lots of goodies in fact. I don't think there's such a thing as a one-stop volcano shop anywhere online. But Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program is surely one indispensable stop along the way to volcano enlightenment.
