JAN 31, 2011 - NASA STEREO Mission is a site that keeps a finger on the pulse of the neighborhood star. Our sun is a highly variable star, and since we live in such close proximity to it - indeed, arguably INSIDE its aura - those variations have a huge impact on our lives here on Planet Earth. Astrology has said that for millennia of course, but thanks to NASA STEREO Mission, we can get a pretty good glimpse of what Sol is up to. (There's an app for that too, an iPhone version that lets you hold the sun in the palm of your hand if you're so inclined.) The STEREO (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory) mission uses a pair of satellite observatories to trace the energy and matter flowing out from Sol to Earth - in 3D, yet. Coronal holes, CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections), sunspots and geomagnetic storms: they're all right here, in living color and full motion.
