NOV 1, 2010 - Merapi is the volcano that roared to life in Indonesia a week ago, leaving several dozen people dead and thousands evacuated. You might want to keep an eye on it over the next several months. This latest eruption began during one of the storm and seismic risk windows identified in my October forecast, including most notably the "18th-26th (under the aegis of the lunar equatorial crossing on the 19th, full moon on the 23rd and the Moon’s peak declination north of the celestial equator on the 26th)." The Merapi site is a production of the Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program, and so should be authoritative and ongoing - a reference we'll all likely have reason to consult from time to time in the months to come. (Coordinates for the summit are included at this site, for anyone interested in charting it.)
