JUL 13, 2009 - Volcano Under the City is a PBS page about Mt. Nyiragongo in the Congo, which has been erupting on and off since January 2002. It's belching up to 50,000 tons of sulfur dioxide a day into the atmosphere, more than any other active volcano - and nearly three times as much sulfur dioxide as the United States produces in an entire year. Sulfur dioxide is a known climate-change agent, and since 2002 this one volcano has been producing more of the stuff in a single day than the whole USA does in an entire year. Think about it.
