JUL 28, 2008 - Aug. 1 Solar Eclipse is SPACE.com's heads-up on this Friday's solar eclipse, and well worth a look. I've already touched on - and I assume you've already read about - the astrology of this eclipse in my 2008 World Forecast Highlights. Even so, Aug. 1 Solar Eclipse is a great backgrounder on the practical astronomy of this first total solar eclipse in more than two years; including rather precise details on where it's visible. The best viewing is probably to be had from a seat on the Airbus A330-200 jet chartered by astronomer Glenn Schneider to chase the moon's shadow 37,000 feet above the Arctic Ocean about 400 miles from the North Pole. I figure a lot of people will be having a ringside seat for some extreme weather in the days leading up to and following the August 1 eclipse, as noted in my forecast. But I do hope there will be clear skies in the eclipse path.
