JUL 21, 2008 - Top 10 Weirdest Things in Space is for you, if Top Ten lists and the cosmos tickle your fancy. Brown dwarfs come in at number ten in the list. I wonder if they can't account for a good part of the matter that seems to be missing from the universe. Holding at number nine on the list are "the walking corpses of the cosmos," neutron stars. And if you think a supernova is impressive - I certainly do - then wait until you get acquainted with number four on the list, the hypernova. And then there's the mystery of the missing radiation from the black hole at the center of our galaxy, a real puzzler at number three on the list. I don't want to spoil the surprise by giving you the whole list, let alone the number one weirdest of the weird, but suffice it to say that Space.com Senior Science Writer Robert Roy Britt has done an admirable job with this compilation, which is explained in clear and lively prose without the least hint of mind-numbing equations.
