APR 30, 2007 - Planetary Defense is a report prepared for the Air Force 2025 project, a fly-boy think-tank and maybe the only thing that stands between us humans and asteroidal extinction. Unless any of a hundred other things, most of which we're capable of unleashing on ourselves by accident or design, can do the trick first. Or maybe some Twilight Zone Kanamits will intercede, although there's now a plan for that too. How very astrological, at the heart of it: the sky around us is a font of mystery, wonder and fear. We study it with furrowed brow, hoping to foretell and perhaps preempt our fate. It is now, as it ever was and ever shall be.
