AUG 2, 2004 - Einstein@Home is your chance to contribute to the advancement of astrophysics and a better understanding of the Cosmos. Predicted by Einstein, the existence of gravitational waves has been inferred from observation of binary pulsar stars; but never directly detected. The aim of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) is to detect gravitational waves by the distortion they exert on precisely aligned laser beams. Einstein@Home is a distributing computing project, in which PCs all over the world download and run a special screensaver that analyzes data from the LIGO experiment when the computer is on but inactive. Sign on now at the website, to be notified when Einstein@Home is ready to go. (Right now, they're shooting for 2005.) When that day arrives, your own PC, working for LIGO when it's not working for you, can play a part in unraveling the mysteries of the Universe - imagine that!
