OCT 28, 2002 - The Kuiper Belt Page is step one on your path to learn about the trans-Neptunian zone of our solar system, the region where so many minor planets are being discovered lately. The Kuiper (pronounced KOY-per) Belt stretches outwards from the orbit of Neptune (30 AU) to 50 AU - one Astronomical Unit (AU) being the mean distance from Earth to Sun. In this band, there are an estimated 70,000 "trans-Neptunians" - including the recently discovered Quaoar, as well as great numbers of short-period comets, and arguably, the planet Pluto itself. For the best introduction I've seen to a fascinating region of our local system, something potentially of signficance to astrologers interested in long term cycles, don't miss The Kuiper Belt Page.
