As it turned out, major US equity markets were on a decent upward trend until about mid-March, and headed south for the rest of the month. As Martin Volk put it in an April 5 article for MSNBC, "The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average, drifting back toward the 10,000 level, lost 1.3 percent in the latest week and is off more than 3 percent since March 19."

I had forecast that a "period of heavy weather and seismic turbulence appears to be on tap three days before to three days after the March 14 new moon," and it started in timely fashion with a 5.8 Richter quake in southern Japan on the 11th. This was followed by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 in the Chile-Bolivia border region on the 12th.

As it happened, there was a 6.1 Richter temblor in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on March 25. Thousands of people were injured, hundreds of homes were destroyed, and some 20,000 people were homeless as a result of the quake, which killed between 800 and 1,000 people.
