If you were expecting some kind of sun sign nonsense, forget about it. This is real astrology for the real world, not some mystical mumbo-jumbo psycho-babble word salad. If it's real astrology for yourself that you want, you can get it by phone or in print. And if you need help deciphering the astrological glyphs in the graphics accompanying this article, see Astroglyphs: Astrological Symbols Guide. Please note: this forecast is expressed in terms of Universal Time (UT, aka GMT). Also please be aware that, while I never change a forecast once it's published, I do post errata to acknowledge typographical errors and the like.
PLEASE NOTE: This month’s forecast incorporates elements of (and refers to) my complete 2012 World Forecast Highlights (34 8-1/2 x 11” illustrated pages), focused, amplified and elaborated with details for the month as appropriate. First and foremost, rest assured there’s no Mayan apocalypse this month! My 2012 World Forecast Highlights – see the full version, published last year – correctly foretold the notable trends and events of the year, including the re-election of President Obama. I also gave the lie to the end of the world delusions so profitably promulgated by Mayan calendar enthusiasts and their ilk. I was right about the election, and in a few weeks you’ll see that I was right about the Mayan silliness too. As for stuff that really will happen this month, let’s begin at the beginning.
December opens up with the tail end of a Mercury Max (ending on the 4th), so you can expect that it takes full concentration just to get by for the first few days of the month. Assume that nothing will work out short of close supervision and full follow-up, and you won’t be far wrong. Human error is at the bottom of a lot of this, but some of it is malfeasance as well as misfeasance. Insecure communications, hackers, infrastructure breakdown: these are all par for the course, and weather both terrestrial and solar (as in CMEs) will play a part in this.
Speaking of weather, the last SuperMoon of 2012 is the new moon on December 13, at 21° 45’ Sagittarius. Like all the other SuperMoons of the year, this is a Sun-Moon alignment pretty much isolated from other lunar extremes, such as lunar declination peaks or equatorial crossings. In effect from the 10th through the 16th, this SuperMoon signals the customary higher-than-normal risk for extreme tides and elevated storm and seismic activity. Watch the news, and you’ll see the evidence: an increase in severe storms with powerful winds, heavy precipitation and flooding; moderate-to-severe earthquakes (M5 and up), and volcanic eruptions; as well as coastal flooding and erosion due to extreme high tides.
The fact that this is a new moon SuperMoon means it’s the stealth variety. In other words, it won’t be one of those great big dramatic SuperMoons that you’ll see rising in the east at sunset. That happens only in the case of a full moon SuperMoon. Some people are under the mistaken impression that only full moons can be SuperMoons. Wrong: those are the only SuperMoons you can see from down here on our home planet. The new moon SuperMoon, the stealth variety, while invisible can still be felt or indirectly seen, in terms of its geophysical concomitants – extreme ocean tides, for example.
It would be a good time to have your emergency kit ready for this (or any) SuperMoon, whether traveling or safely ensconced at home. Most especially, perhaps, if you’ll be in one of the astro-locality risk zones associated with this alignment. These include a longitudinal meridian line running through the Horn of Africa and the Middle East, northward through Iran, Iraq and Russia, over the pole and back down through western Canada and the Eastern Pacific Ocean just off the coast of North America.
There’s also a horizon arc sweeping across the southern tip of South America and along that continent’s south Atlantic coast and the eastern quarter of Brazil, crossing the Atlantic to pass over the UK and Scandinavia before bending east across northern Russia and then southwards through Mongolia and China, crossing the Western Pacific to pass over Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on the way to eastern Australia and New Zealand.
Don’t think you’re free and clear if you’re not in one of these target zones! In reality, as I always say, this alignment is astronomical in scale and therefore planet-wide in its potential scope.
Although not in the same class as an eclipse (let alone a SuperMoon), any new or full moon signifies greater than normal disturbances in the crust, seas and atmosphere of our home planet. Such will be the case from December 25 into January 6, 2013, in association with the December 28 full moon at 7° 6’ Cancer. (This particular geocosmic shock window gets extended beyond the customary three days either way period as it merges into the January 3 lunar equatorial crossing, which begins making its presence felt late on the 1st.)
The December 28 full moon comprises part of a notable T-Square configuration, opposing Pluto and the Sun and squaring Uranus. So, in addition to the geophysical extremes just mentioned, I expect we’ll see scientific and technological discoveries, break-outs and break-throughs grabbing headlines; as well as economic, social and political tensions breaking out into civil strife as the year comes to an end: riots, rebellion and civil war have never been far out of the spotlight in this year of Uranus-Pluto squares, but they’ll really come to the fore under the light of this full moon. The 99% are getting more and more restless . . . it certainly won’t be the only such outburst this month, but it’s likely to be the most dramatic. (Also look to the Moon-Mars alignment on the 15th in this regard.)
